Whilst studying Sound Production I focused a large portion of my energy toward starting a DIY record label, in the spirit of labels from the post-punk era such as Postcard and Factory Records.
The mission of the label was to provide an opportunity for local bands and musicians to record and release their music without spending a fortune on studios, equipment, engineers etc.
I worked with two acts – singer/songwriter Dear Lara and indie rock band The Circus Ship. Both artists received critical acclaim for our recordings from Lauren Laverne (BBC 6 Music), Simon Raymonde (of the Cocteau Twins), Jim Gellatly (XFM and Amazing Radio) and Glasgow’s famous Ravechild blog.
I’ve learned a lot about the music industry and event organisation from recording and releasing several EPs, helping my artists get gigs and promoting their music to countless indie music review blog/websites.
